Residency in Alaska:
Alan Austerman is a lifetime resident of Kodiak Island. Alan and his wife Ginny live in Kodiak.

Occupation:
Over the years he has worked as a commercial fisherman (for crab, salmon, halibut and shrimp) and a small business owner, with ventures that included a printing firm (Kodiak Kwik Copy), newspaper owner (the Kadiak Times), Austerman's Office and Art Supply, and the Zachar Bay Camp on the South End of Kodiak Island. He also served as the Executive Director for the Kodiak Island Convention and Visitors Bureau. More recently he has worked as a consultant.

Other Political and Government Positions:
Alan has spent more than 20 years serving residents of Kodiak Island and neighboring regions in elected office. His service has included terms in the

- Kodiak Island Borough Assembly (1985-1993)
- State of Alaska House of Representatives (1995-2000)
- State of Alaska Senate (2001-2003)
- And his current term in the Alaska House of Representatives (January 2009—Present)
- Bush Caucus
- Joint Alaska State Legislative Veterans’ Caucus

He also worked four years as the State of Alaska Fishery Policy Advisor under Governor Frank Murkowski (2003-2006).
